"Bungie and Halo, the two go hand-in-hand with each other nowadays. But there was a time when Bungie was known for a smaller, niche first-person shooter that was only available for Microsoft's biggest rival, the Macintosh computer. The series was known as Marathon and spawned three games in all, each of which contained new twists on the then newly anointed FPS genre. Little did we know that Marathon would be the precursor to one of the best-selling series in entertainment history. Now, Microsoft is giving gamers a chance to take a look back at one of Bungie's first masterpieces in the form of Marathon: Durandal. The game has been taken into the high-definition generation with retooled visuals, a control scheme that is perfectly fit to the Xbox 360 controller, and features tons of inspirations for the greatness that would eventually manifest itself into Halo. The Xbox Live Arcade version will bring the same single player adventure that Mac users got to enjoy way back in 1994, as well as four-player split-screen, and eight player online deathmatches. Start saving towards 800 Microsoft points, Marathon: Durandal is going to be a must-have title when it's released later this year."

New York -- Tuesday July 10, 2007 -- Freeverse today announced that it has officially dropped "Software" from it's name and will henceforth be known simply as "Freeverse, inc." The longtime Mac developer and publisher has additionally announced that it will be unveiling a new website later this week to coincide with new title announcements.

Ian Lynch Smith, Freeverse's President said: "As we've expanded into other realms such as console game development, the 'Software' part of our name has been feeling a little antiquated. With a new look and a new website, we felt the moment was right for a slightly new name as well. Plus, Apple dropped "Computer" from their name and everyone knows that we like to do everything that Apple does. It's how we roll."
Longtime Mac aficionados may also remember Freeverse's quirky foray into the hardware realm with the popular "iVase" flower holder for the original iMac.
Freeverse has promised further releases and announcements later this week, so stay tuned!
